AVA Scholars

AVA = the best of the world + a biblical worldview + sport.

We don't copy one country. We borrow the strongest element from each of the strongest systems and teach it inside a biblical worldview to athletes who also train.

What we borrow

Three references, one model

Singapore

Mastery and high expectations

Structured progression in mathematics and science, deep practice before extension, and a national framework aimed at confident, resilient, discerning, self-directed learners.

PISA 2022: highest-performing system in mathematics, reading and science (OECD).

Finland

Developmental appropriateness

Multidisciplinary learning, strong student support and well-being as a condition of learning rather than a reward for it.

Formal school begins at age seven; basic education spans grades 1–9 (Finnish National Agency for Education).

Japan

Discipline, resilience, responsibility

Shared responsibility for the learning environment, persistence through difficulty, and community obligation as part of education.

Among the highest-performing systems in PISA 2022 and among those showing resilience through the pandemic period (OECD).

Finland is no longer the top PISA performer, and we say so. It remains valuable as a developmental and equity reference. Naming what each system is actually good at is more useful to a parent than declaring one country universally best.

Why it belongs in a sports academy

Can I succeed beyond the field?

Most athletic careers end. The learner does not.

Mastery cycles

Learn, practice, assess, re-teach — the same loop we use for skill.

Whole-child support

Sleep, load, stress and schedule are treated as academic variables.

Ownership

Athletes track their own academic targets alongside their training targets.
